YES… in-depth line-up review of toners and eye oils/creams would be perfect–I haven't found my "holy grail/hall of fame" product in either category.

Question: Is theTaTa Harper Rejuvenating Serum suppose to have an unpleasant scent? It was my first water-based serum and assumed it had turned rancid. I then purchased the In Fiore Complex de Fluer and was also disappointed in the scent– smells black peppery to me. Is this indicative of water-based serum? I very much enjoy the body/mind aromatherapy Eco products provide as well, which makes me reluctant to use either of these products. Thanks for the heads-up on the scent profile of Mahalo Vitality Elixir– it was on my wish list and now, not so much.

Excellent video, and I'm looking forward to more of these in-depth reviews by various product types. Thanks!

Hi Mercedes, what a comprehensive video!! I would love to see cleanser, toner, eye cream line ups next. Off the topic of skincare, what do you think about the recent acquisition of whole foods by amazon?? and the recent news about what usa today released about coconut oil??

Aww wow! I'm so incredibly honored that Midnight is in your Hall of Fame!
Your description of what makes an oil a serum is good, but I've always found it a bit of a marketing ploy….if it's 100% oil based, then it's a facial oil. A serum, to me (and many other formulators) is something water (or hydrosol)-based with humectants and actives. Calling an oil a serum is a way to charge $100/oz. At least, that's my 2 cents! And speaking of true serums, I had a bit of the same issue with Hydrate. JS is one of the few other brands that I have been buying lately (I've got more than enough of my own skincare to use and test to last a hundred lifetimes) and I went through that thing FAST…and not necessarily because I loved it that much. It was nice, but didn't blow me away. The Ordinary's plain old HA + B5 was just as good, and like $4, although I won't be supporting them anymore since their Estee Lauder investment (partial acquisition? Let's just say they're under the same crowded umbrella now. LAME.)
ANYHOW. I liked your point about rancid oils, and trusting your own gut with whether a product might be off. Our bodies have a natural reaction to things that aren't good for us (unless it's full of sugar…then we get confused!!) and a rancid oil should NOT be used. Ever. No. It's oxidized and doing more harm than good (I've had to tell family members and friends "no, that ointment that expired in 2007 is NOT OK." then wrestle them and throw the thing out.) To me, rancidity smells like crayons and wet cardboard. 🙂
Oh, and ironically, I was mixing up some bug spray for my upcoming yoga retreat as I was watching this!!!

I loooove Tata Harper Elixir Vitae EYE serum! lush! it´s actually the only eye product that almost erases my dark circles and plumps up the skin around the eye area so nicely. Also really like her Brightening Serum (and it smells divine! lol) – very effective on me. Although Pai Rosehip oil – that is a fraction of the price of Tata´s products – works wonders on my skin too (in terms of brightening and evening out my skintone)!
Laurel Sun Damage serum is on my wishlist 🙂

Thank you for sharing your extensive experience and knowledge on this subject. This category in particular can be so overwhelming and expensive! I'm sorry that the bug spray didn't work out for you. It's a daily use product for me, as even in town there are tons of mosquitos here. I'm glad you explained how you tell oils go rancid, I def. do a sniff test now and again, but glad to know that actually happens. I've found myself not enjoying my second bottle of Jordan Samuel's Hydrate serum as much as I had my first. Similarly to some other ppl, my skin gets sucked of moisture when I use it now. I've had to supplement with Indie Lee's Squalane which helped with my dehydration. I am about 75% of the way through the Mindi Walters Regenerative Oil Complex and oh my god it's lush. If you want a rose dominant serum I'd highly recommend it. It's what I imagined Osmia Nectar Drops might be but so much more. I always think of the rose petal scene from American Beauty when I use it. Just velvety rose goodness. I really would love to try the oil from La Belle Lune as well though they appear similar. The Vered oil sounds so lovely I might have to sample that at some point too. Loved this!!

I made a comment yesterday on one of your older vids about why ppl like motorcycles. Then I heard the bike in the background later on your video. Is there a turn somewhere in front of where you live? At the bottom or top of a hill? Or is the person on the bike just accelerating for no reason and being like "I'm a bad ass mother fucker on a bike"?. Actually. Who cares. I guess if I was trying to film videos that might annoy me too. But there is probably a reason why these bikes accelerate right there. Okay that my motorcycles defense done.

The scent of most Tata Harper products is just too much for me, so I passed them on, and the recipients commented on how piercing and cloying they also found the scents, though I do find their lemon juice toner is helping with my hyperpigmentation. You've got me wanting to try the Laurel Sun repair and SkinOwl oils. I get some vitamin C from Marula oil.

I tried Activist hyaluronic, but it did zero for me. I think hyaluronic acid molecules are too big to be of any service topically because on me I feel like it's just pulling all the moisture from my skin even if I'm using occlusive agents on top, so I take hyaluronic acid supplements instead.

I'd love to see your mist lineup. Currently, my favorite is Jasmin de Nuit Botanical Tonic by Sangre de Fruta.

Thanks for the super comprehensive video! I appreciate lengthier videos from you and I look forward to more (at your leisure). 💓

This was such an informative video, which I SO appreciated. Jordan Samuel Hydrate definitely rehabbed my very dehydrated skin and will likely be a winter product for me, but I am getting whiteheads now because I think my skin is too hydrated/hot humid weather — I am ready for Fall. I think it's time to revisit my activist bottle and will probably repurchase previse at some point. Love your opinions on the active oils and serums. My skin is pickier with them, but I love hearing people talk about things they love! Happy Sunday, Mercedes. Missed you in my feed.

I love the these line-ups – so much information! I am also not entirely sure what the difference between serums and oils is anymore. Summers are so hot that I have stopped using serums and have focused on oils – Stark's Midnight is great for that time of year for me, not overwhelming, and has enough awesome ingredients that I can use it on its own. I am about to open up Honua from the BH's box so we'll see how I get along with their combo. Thanks for doing this video, Mercedes!

Great video! Like you, I've accumulated quite a few face oils and serums and now I'm really trying to finish them and streamline. I've recently discovered African Botanics which is a very expensive, luxury line but the products are so beautiful! I was able to get several samples and now of course I want to purchase full sizes- but not until I finish what I have. The neroli marula oil might be the most beautiful one I've sampled (though it's similar to stark midnight). I agree that part of this whole skincare discovery thing is for fun and mind-body health.
